Creating a Family Tradition

NorTro Rolling Acres

Family owned and operated, NorTro Rolling Acres has roots in Hixton, Wisconsin where owners Matt & Emma Karls live. Currently Matt and Emma, along with their daughter Evelyn, son Henry, their pups, and chickens strive to create an environment in which they are growing lasting memories and traditions!

The Karls family extend their love of family to their business! The fun starts in the spring season with Fall Coulee Tulips in late April to early May. Come back to Hixton to select from a variety of Evelyn & Henry's colorful pumpkins!

What does NorTro mean?

One of the original to the farm Norway Spruce trees was removed in April 2022. It stood about 90’ tall (just like Grandpa Norm - an original Hixton-ite) and was more than 107 years old. A fungus was rotting the base of the trunk, and we didn’t want to chance it falling onto the house.

Got me thinking of the name we chose for our farm, NorTro Rolling Acres; Nor(Norwegian/Norman/Grandpa B.) Tro(“Faith” in Norwegian)… this is what farming is about, reflecting on the previous generations who made the right hard decisions to help make todays life possible, caring for land as a precious resource, raising faithful and strong families, and preparing the table for future generations. Never take it for granted.

Our vision is to build a legacy for generations to come, based on Christian values, hard work, and love

Hello there!  We are Matt, Emma (Severson), Evelyn, and Henry Karls

Matt

Although Matt is originally from Waterloo, WI, he now calls Hixton home.  He is dedicated to helping his community by refurbishing the local baseball field each spring, and turning it into an skating rink in the winter.  Matt also coaches Henry's t-ball team.

4.21.21 Introducing the newly seated Town of Curran Chairman. My decision to serve in this capacity took careful consideration and I’m excited to learn and lead throughout this experience. At first I wasn’t sure that a 33 year old was the right person to be in this position, but the more I thought and prayed about it the more it fit.

I believe it’s time that younger generations step up and get more involved in local governments and communities. It’s time for America to remember and live by the examples of our founding fathers. I’ve been inspired by Kirk Cameron and his Campfire Revival studying the American Covenant The Untold Story (author Dr. Marshall Foster) such wisdom needs to reciprocate throughout America today.

I’m continually doing my best to be intentional with how I spend my time gifted by our Creator and not to take a single day for granted... easier said than done. Managing my busy schedule with my young children, wife who is passionate about growing her small business, my wonderful job in Agriculture, serving on now 3 boards, volunteering through our church, implementing habitat projects on our property, and carving out a little time to play. Life can be hectic at times, but it’s so worth it! Thanks be to God for my life... tomorrow is another day - strive to be a better Christian, husband, father and neighbor.

Emma

Emma is originally from Hixton.  She attended Hixton elementary, and graduated high school in BRF.  She was crowned the Hixton Firemen's Queen, and went on to be crowned Miss Jackson County.

She now enjoys raising Evelyn & Henry, running them around to dance classes, figure skating, baseball, and anywhere else they need to go.  Although she is a country girl, loves to hunt, can change her own oil, and isn't afraid to get dirty, she is a Disney girl through and through!  You'll catch the former Queen of Hixton/Jackson county still sporting those fancy dresses and beautifying women with her Mary Kay business!

The picture above shows Emma planting seedlings that were transplanted on the property.  Over 1,000 seedlings with an end goal in mind of a wildlife paradise for the kids and other family and friends to enjoy!

Evelyn & Henry

Evelyn and Henry have lived their lives in Hixton and are being raised on the 'farm' with Christian values.  They are busy kids who like to play outside, do arts and crafts, bake cookies, run with the dogs, and watch an occasional movie.

The picture above shows them building some bird houses.  Grandpa (Norm) B enjoyed building bird houses just like this - among many other things!

This little Norwegian family strives to keep tradition alive, family close, and God first!
